Bill is Vice President of International Risks’ Brand Protection Division. Bill founded his previous company Thompson Market Services in 2004, and was acquired by International Risk in 2008. Based in Shanghai, he is responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating brand and IP protection assignments undertaken by International Risk, as well as personally managing a broad range of brand and IP protection related consulting assignments on behalf of International Risk clients.
Bill has spent 28 years living and working in Asia; 24 years of which has been in the investigation and risk mitigation industry in Asia with an emphasis on brand and IP protection, including conducting numerous enforcement actions which have resulted in many criminal prosecutions for a portfolio of multi-national clients. For the past ten years he has concentrated exclusively on brand protection covering a wide variety of product and industry areas including consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, auto parts, consumer electronics, computer software and hardware products, office machinery, telecommunications equipment, sporting goods, hardware and hand tools, industrial machinery, luxury goods, timepieces, photo equipment, ag-chem, stationery products, character merchandise and many other categories.
Bill spent 19 years working for a large USA based multinational security company heading business units of the company in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and China. During this period he acquired extensive experience of and a reputation as an expert in matters relating to brand protection.
Following undergraduate and graduate studies at Cornell University in New York, Bill has been resident in Asia since 1980. He is fluent in both spoken and written Chinese. Bill is a longstanding member of several IP, security and commercial organizations and is a frequent speaker on the subject of intellectual property protection services.
