Iain Grant, a Scotsman, has a background of nearly 30 years in law enforcement where he specialised in the investigation of Chinese organised crime groups on an international and regional front. He retired from the Royal Hong Kong Police in 1997 as the Head of the Narcotics Bureau in the rank of Detective Chief Superintendent. He was awarded the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service by HM the Queen.

The same year he joined IFPI, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which represents the global recording industry in the newly created post of Worldwide Head of Enforcement. He was responsible for directing their anti-piracy enforcement operations on a global basis. During his ten year tenure (1997-2007) he formulated and implemented a very successful anti-piracy strategy which included the establishment of a worldwide team of over 50 personnel who worked in partnership with national associations, partner industries and government agencies. The team employed the latest law enforcement techniques incorporating intelligence databases, criminal analysis and forensics.

His responsibilities also included extensive lobbying for the enforcement of intellectual property rights and he was personally active in over 70 countries. An experienced public speaker he enjoyed extensive exposure on the conference circuit and addressed numerous international and governmental bodies on intellectual property rights issues and the links to organised crime, including the US House of Representatives, International Relations Committee, EU Parliament, EU Forum on Combating Organised Crime, UK Music Forum, GBLACC, WCO and Interpol.

He was also the co-founding chair and active member of the Interpol Intellectual Property Crime Action Group (IIPCAG).

Since leaving IFPI he has operated as an independent risk management and intellectual property protection consultant and has worked with EU funded IPR Training Projects in fledgling member states.

He also holds a Master of Arts in Police Studies (Exeter 1993).
