Stuart is Senior Vice President of International Risk Ltd based in Tokyo and is responsible for directing International Risk’s business and operations in Japan. The company, formerly part of an international audit firm, is the leading provider of comprehensive business risk solutions, investigations, business intelligence, brand protection, corporate security, crisis containment and related services.
Stuart has been involved in investigations work throughout his career, conducting sensitive investigations in the Asian region and the former Soviet Bloc including 17 years as a diplomat in the British Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. His role at International Risk requires him to manage investigative, business intelligence and risk mitigation consulting assignments on behalf of major foreign and Japanese companies doing business in the Asian region, and globally.
His assignments have included non-financial due diligence investigations for foreign companies considering investment in Japan and for Japanese companies investing in Asia, North America and Europe; major fraud investigations in Japan and the Asian region; business intelligence assignments in Japan including hostile take-overs; brand protection issues in Taiwan, China and Japan; anti-dumping cases and crisis management projects.
Stuart’s appointments overseas as a diplomat included the British Embassy Warsaw, the British Embassy East Berlin (during the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall), the British Embassy The Hague, the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur and the British Embassy Tokyo where he spent nearly 5 years. During his last appointment in Japan his main responsibilities included liaison with various Japanese government agencies representing the views of the British Government dealing with international criminal activity including money laundering, terrorism and regional security issues.
