INTERNATIONAL RISK Ltd
As President and Chief Executive Officer of International Risk Steve is responsible for the strategic direction and operations of International Risk. Steve set up the company in the year 2000 on behalf of an international accounting firm and subsequently led a management buy-out (MBO) of the firm. In July 2006 International Risk became part of New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) listed FTI Consulting Inc. Under Steve’s leadership International Risk has conducted a wide variety of business intelligence and investigative assignments in Asia and beyond.
In the eight years prior to joining International Risk he was the Executive Managing Director and Regional Head of Asia for a leading U.S. listed company in the risk mitigation field. He was concurrently the Chairman of an intellectual property investigation company focusing on brand protection issues in China and other emerging markets. Steve has developed unique techniques to mitigate against distribution system fraud in these markets.
During the past 17 years, he has conducted numerous sensitive business intelligence projects, major financial investigations, international asset searches and risk management assessments. He has also led a number of crisis management teams faced with financial or other significant threats to multi-national corporations.
Steve previously spent 18 years in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force and commanded the Force’s Criminal Intelligence Bureau. He retired in the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police. His duties included operational command of the Intelligence Bureau and its covert resources; tactical and strategic operations against triad and organised crime groups, risk assessments and control of “declared” kidnapping incidents or product contamination issues. Steve has handled 28 kidnapping incidents which ranged from short term, domestic cases, through major international incidents involving several jurisdictions.
Steve speaks fluent Cantonese and has extensive experience in specialist units including the Commercial Crime Bureau and the Police Tactical Unit. He has operated extensively in South East Asia, frequently working with US Federal Agencies and has lectured on risk management, kidnapping, organised crime and related subjects in China, the US and Europe.
